About WEK 2 Project:

The objective of the WEK 2 Project is to establish climate resilient livelihoods and reduce natural resource conflicts as well as displacement due to loss of livelihoods in North Darfur. The WEK2 Project will, following the success in the first phase of the project, continue to demonstrate how effective and inclusive natural resource management, based on UNEPs experience in Sudan of IWRM and CBNRM, can improve relationships over natural resources, therefore contributing to peace in a conflict affected region of Sudan. The WEK2 Project will also improve livelihoods through enabling sustainable increases in agriculture and related value chain productivity. Participating communities will achieve sustainable increases in agricultural and related value-chain production through the rehabilitation and improved management of land, forest and water resources.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

  • Provide an overview of the job, its context, and the contribution that it makes.
  • To manage and coordinate the successful planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the WEK 2 – Project North Darfur.
  • Ensure the project activities and outputs conform to quality and performance standards expected by the EU (donor), UNEP (project holder) and Practical Action (executing partner).
  • Support all aspects of WEK2 reporting to ensure that donor reports are accurate and in compliance with reporting requirements and are submitted on time.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1 Programme Planning and management and reporting:

  • Together with the project manager, develop detailed project work plans, including activity descriptions and timetables and supervise their implementation.
  • To closely monitor the project progress and ensure good reporting and documentation of process and impact.
  • Collate reports, articles, and stories from the field with the support of field staff for compilation of quarterly and annual reports according to set reporting timeframes.
  • Conduct a first level review of reports generated by project manager and staff, including fact checking and revisions as necessary to ensure high quality and compliance with project requirements.
  • To ensure good relations are maintained at all times with project partners and stakeholders.
  • To identify and develop, where appropriate, new project ideas and strategic opportunities leading to the development of concept notes and proposals.

2 Asset control:

2.1 To take responsibility for all assets assigned to the project, and oversee their use.

Line Management:

  • To provide technical support to the staff within the project. Assist and report on the staff appraisal cycle and identifying staff development opportunities.
  • To ensure understanding of and compliance with, Practical Action guidelines, policies and procedures.

4 Monitoring, Evaluation and Knowledge Sharing:

  • 4.1 To systematize the development of programme monitoring procedures both for and by the Project’s beneficiaries and its staff, and to ensure that the lessons generated by the programme and its beneficiaries are property captured and used.
  • 4.2 Work closely with M&E staff to consolidate and analyse data on programme implementation and indicators in order to facilitate the preparation of periodic reports as required to ensure accurate and effective data presentation in reports.
  • 4.3 To ensure that project activities and progress are recorded under Practical Action M&E system according to the Practical Action PME guidelines and the project M&E framework devolved by UNEP.
  • 4.4 Work closely with the UNEP M&E expert to produce qualitative and quantitative data for the report as needed.
  • 4.5 Provide technical assistance to project M&E officer and staff on data entry and ensures appropriate access and data security soft and hardcopies.
  • 4.6 To contribute to and oversee the successful development of relevant articles, publications videos or radio Interviews in order to promote and disseminate the programme experiences and learning.
  • 4.7 To oversee the organization of seminars, workshops or other projects related inter- organizational and/or promotional events.
  • 4.8 To promote knowledge sharing by providing information and lessons learned from the project reports and reflections with the Project Manager as well as with the Sudan and international Programme Team and in addition to any partners and stakeholders.

5 Representation and Networking:

  • 5.1 To establish and maintain regular contact with UNEP and other organizations to promote integrated water resources management.
  • 5.2 To negotiate agreements with partner organizations and government in support of Practical Action and the programme activities.
  • 5.3 To represent Practical Action in meetings at local, national and international level as appropriate.
6 Contribution to Strategic Planning:
  • 6.1 To participate in programme planning, review and coordination meetings.
  • 6.2 To contribute to the formulation and/or review of the North Darfur and Sudan Country / regional programme strategy and programme documents.
  • 6.3 To provide support to Project Manager and/or director as requested

KEY COMPETENCES:

  • Knowledge of programs and projects MEAL.
  • Proven management and coordination experience.
  • Excellent Computer skills in Excel and Windows etc.

ESSENTIAL:

  • Able to communicate effectively (written and verbal) in English native speaker.
  • Prepared to work under pressure and adhere to strict deadlines
  • Ability to work at a senior level of strategy and policy development.
  • An honest person and with high integrity and morals.
  • Good decisions decision making ability.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in natural resources management, business administration, engineering or any other relevant study, with a recognized professional certificate in projects/programs management would be preferred.
