Position Summary

Search is seeking a Program Officer to oversee the day-to-day implementation of its projects. Based in Khartoum with consistent travel (70%) to remote project locations including Abyei, s/he will support the planning and implementation of all partner program activities, liaising with partner focal points, key  stakeholders in the different project locations, and working hand-in-hand with the Project Coordinator on all aspects of the project, as well as preparing activity and quarterly reports. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and support activities implemented by partner organizations through frequent travel to target locations.
  • Ensure progress on all partner activities, in coordination with Search, including liaising with key local stakeholders, project partners and external consultants.
  • Directly liaise with the Humanitarian Aid Commission and State-level Ministries to elicit approval, ensure support and coordination with all project activities.
  • Conduct punctual field visits and support the field visits of other staff to attend different project activities to ensure their quality and communicate with the key local stakeholders to create/maintain trust and engagement.
  • Support the Program Coordinator and assist with the management of- sub-grantees, helping them to keep updated work plans and ensuring a smooth implementation and monitoring of their deliverables and results, as well as timely and quality reporting.
  • Prepare activity and quarterly narrative reports in English, in collaboration with Search’s Sudan project team, the East Africa regional team, and HQ.
  • Support the monitoring and evaluation aspects of the projects, working with the DME staff of Search and partner organization to support in the collection and documentation of progress towards project (un-)intended results. 
  • Support the preparation of detailed partner activity budgets and support the Finance Officer and Program Coordinator in the preparation of monthly budget requests for activities, in compliance of Search’s administrative and financial policies and procedures.
  • Provide support as needed to the administrative and logistical arrangements for the implementation of program activities.
  • Support the communication and visibility aspects of the Sudan program, while in the field, through written material, photos, and collecting success stories from partners.
  • Assist the project staff with other activities and responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in international development, conflict resolution, project management or related field.
  • At least five years of INGO or CSO experience in project implementation and/or management in Sudan.
  • Experience living and working in the project locations, including Al Qadarif, Kassala, South and West Kordofan, Blue Nile, and Abeyi, is an asset.
  • Willingness to travel regularly to remote areas.
  • Proficiency in English and Arabic (written and spoken).
  • Strong and proven ability in report writing in English.
  • Knowledge of proposal writing is an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, as well as social media platforms.
  • Knowledge and previous experience in design, monitoring and evaluation (DME).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and effective communication with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Cultural sensitivity and strong interest in dialogue, peacebuilding and conflict transformation.
